Hathaway on board for Les Miserables

Since way back in August, the rumour mill has been abuzz with, er, rumours that the delicious Ms Anne Hathaway was locked in for Tom Hooper’s (The King’s Speech) new interpretation of Les Miserables. Now it’s officially official – Hathaway is Fantine.

The musical version of Victor Hugo’s classic novel will also see Hugh Jackman take up the role of Jean Valjean. Valjean’s nemesis, lawman Javert, will be played by Russell Crowe.

Fantine is a young woman who loses her factory job after being discovered sending money home to her daughter, Cosette. Valjean, taking pity on her, agrees to raise the child as his own. Cue the song I Dream A Dream.

Cameras start rolling early-2012.
