Keith Lemon: The Movie is this week’s Film Club pick! And from the looks of it, it’s a flick filled to the brim with the cream of British celebrity cameos. We wonder if any of them will be as good as these ‘as themselves’ appearances?
MARK HAMILL (JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK) It takes a cool dude to rock a spiky wig, giant fist, black cape, and the title Cocknocker. Considering that this film had so many cameos that Kevin Smith actually had to turn people away, it’s very much not surprising to see Mark Hamill turn up in this, especially since he’s the director’s Number One All Time Hero. In fact it’s enough to make us wonder why he hadn’t popped up in a Kevin Smith film before.
TOM JONES (MARS ATTACKS) Tom Jones always seemed like one of those people who took themselves surprisingly seriously. No longer! The man clearly knows he’s funny , and he’s right. He also gets what is definitely the best scene of the entire movie, a very special rendition of “It’s Not Unusual” in the middle of a rocky island surrounded by woodland creatures.
ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER (LAST ACTION HERO) It’s far from Arnie’s best, but The Last Action Hero was doing this as-himself shiz way before almost everyone else. Jack Slater is a fictional movie character, similar to many of the characters Schwarzenegger has played, but comes into the real world through the use of a magic ticket. Unfortunately, all the things he could do in his world don’t really work. Boo.
JOHN MALKOVICH (BEING JOHN MALKOVICH) Charlie Kaufman, the man behind like… all the weirdest films you’ve seen in the last decade, wrote this film without knowing if John Malkovich would even consider doing it. Luckily for us, he did. But can you imagine the awkward conversation that must have led to him saying yes? Malkovich has said that his initial reaction to reading it was that he was “half intrigued and half horrified”, which given the fact he appears with enormous fake breasts isn’t all that surprising. Not only was the movie a career-making hit, it made us and everyone we know scratch their heads in confusion. A winner!

But just what is this Film Club malarkey all about? It’s simples, really. Each week we send a pair of cinema tix (ODEON or Cineworld, whichever is best) to 10 of our most active Facebook/Twitter followers. We put the film we’re going to see to the vote, and the winning film is the one we all go to see. Then we all sit around on Facebook on the Sunday night (6.30) and chat about it. Magic. Sound like something you want to get involved with? Drop us a line at twitter.com/f_t_r_c or on Facebook at on.fb.me/d4dMv8
