FTRC loves…Liam Neeson

Liam Neeson = badass. And in honour of his new flick Taken 2 hitting cinemas, we’ve compiled our fave nuggets of Neeson trivia to share with you guys. Woot woot!

His real name is William John Neeson. Didn’t fancy Bill? Or Will?

Is freakishly tall – 6’4!

Neeson worked as a forklift operator for Guinness, truck driver, assistant architect and an amateur boxer.

Was considered as a possible candidate for the role of James Bond. Pierce Brosnan beat him to it.

Really, really wanted to be in The Phantom Menace; so much so that he didn’t even bother reading the script. We wonder if he’d have been so keen if he had…

BFFs with Ralph Fiennes.

Suffers from acrophobia (irrational fear of heights) and reckons he “gets dizzy on a thick carpet.” We wonder if that happens when he looks at his feet?

Learned Nagasu Do to kick ass in Taken.

So tall that he cost The Phantom Menace an extra $150,000 in set construction so they’d be higher than his head.

And his Phantom Menace communicator? A redecorated Sensor Excel – that’s a womens razor.

His most embarrassing moment ever (according to him) came when he auditioned for the role of Fezzik in The Princess Bride. Rob Reiner was apparently disgusted by the fact he was ‘only’ six-foot-four and gave the part to seven-footer Andre the Giant.

By contrast, Neeson’s impressive height scored him his breakout film role; the knightly Gawain in Excalibur.
