FTRC Loves…TV shows turned movies
The big-screen version of The Sweeney is released this week! And boy, do we love it when Hollywood gets it’s hands on TV shows…
• For one scene in the bonkers Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, David Lynch asked Sheryl Lee to inhale the smoke from five cigarettes at once. She did, and promptly fainted.
• Roseanne Barr turned down a cameo as a neighbour in The Brady Bunch Movie.
• In The Addams Family Values, Pugsley and Wednesday are blessed with baby brother Pubert. He was actually played by twin girls.
• The script of the Charlie’s Angels movie was rewritten a whopping 30 times before being deemed acceptable. 18 writers worked on it.
• Dana Carvey never bothered to learn the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody for that scene in Wayne’s World. Watch closely; you can see he’s just vaguely moving his mouth to the music.
• While filming THAT Mission Impossible scene where he drops from the ceiling and hovers over the ground, Tom Cruise kept smacking his head on the floor. He eventually had the bright idea of putting coins in his shoes to help him balance.
• Carrie Fisher got engaged to Dan Aykroyd during filming of The Blues Brothers – shortly after he performed the Heimlich Manoeuvre on her.
• Harrison Ford may have starred in the movie version of The Fugitive, but he’s never seen an episode of the TV show.
• Star Trek sequel Wrath of Khan was originally titled Vengeance of Khan. It was changed because Star Wars: Return of the Jedi was, at that time, called Revenge of the Jedi. After the change, George Lucas renamed his movie anyway.
• The South Park movie was entered into the 2001 Guinness Book of Records for most profanity used in an animated film. It’s got 399 swear words, 199 ‘offensive gestures’ and 221 acts of violence.
• The Sweeney has appeared on long-running Brit car show Top Gear. An episode of (we’re reliably informed) Series 18 features the Top Gear gang helping out on a chase scene.
