‘World’s Greatest Dad’: Go see it!
Along with ‘Greenberg’, ‘World’s Greatest Dad’ is the freshest, funniest and darkest comedy we’ve seen this year.
Also like ‘Greenberg’, which stars Ben Stiller in a rare and refreshingly genuine role, ‘WGD’ allows Robin Williams to show off the acting chops you perhaps forgot he had.
We’ve become so accustomed to seeing Williams as the zany character in light, fluffy family features that it’s easy to forget he’s got real dramatic clout.
It’s been a year since the film was released in America, but thank goodness it’s going to hit the silver screen over here.
Written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait (you may remember him as Zed from the ‘Police Academy’ movies), Williams initially agreed to take a small role in the film as a favour to Goldthwait in the hopes that the flick would get financial backing.
However Williams was so impressed by the lead character Lance Clayton that he ended up as the lead.
The film also features a cameo by Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic! Yep, we got pretty excited about the randomness of that one.
The trailer doesn’t do justice to the twisted, irreverent and occasionally gasp-out-loud script and subject matter, so we urge you to go see it in full.
‘World’s Greatest Dad’ opens in cinemas around the country on September 24.
